Until a few years ago, Matthew Goodwin presented himself as an intellectual foe of the authoritarian right. But gradually the political scientist began to metamorphose.
Today, he often adopts rhetoric similar to the right-wing parties he once studied as an academic. He co-presents a show on GB News and is reportedly eyeing a role as home secretary in a hypothetical Reform UK government.
James Bloodworth profiled Goodwin for Prospect’s summer edition and, prior to that, he profiled right-wing intellectual Douglas Murray. In this video—a bonus episode of the Prospect Podcast—he joins Benjamin Clark to discuss the increasingly common phenomenon of the “sensible” conservative going nuclear.
